Cathcart Cemetery Cleanup
Hi team, ASA,
“CLEAN UP” Cathcart Cemetery, Lynn Park , Glasgow G44 3ST
Most of you will be aware that the cleanup which was scheduled for the first bank holiday of May (Monday, 4th May) was cancelled, due to torrential rain.
After checking the weather forecast throughout the night and early hours on the internet, I was compelled to cancel it due to the possibility of damage to the cemetery alongside health and safety aspects and issues. The prognosis was that it was going to rain all day, and it did, coupled with the wind.
Water from the road leading to the graveyard travels downhill into the graveyard and penetrates the ground. This made the ground slippery, muddy and in certain places boggy. Furthermore, the river Cart which is at the bottom of the cemetery, inside the valley has an adverse effect on the land. Please note there are drains in the proximity, but nevertheless in my view there may not have been a successful outcome considering all the circumstances.
I am aware that a few individuals wish to furnish the use of their welly-boots, and I respect their enthusiasm. However, safety is paramount and for volunteers to endure an injury would not have been a successful outcome.
No job is ever complete without its problems, and Allah SWT's work is not easy. We should embrace this as a challenge to see if we are cut out for trials and tribulations. If we give up now, what chance do we have in the arena of life? Having said that, we sometimes have to work smart, not hard and this was one of those times.
I have to restart my marketing from reorganising the printing to going round every Mosque in Glasgow requesting Alaans, the distribution of leaflets at every Mosque, and also places frequented by the Muslims of Glasgow. Also sending out text messages and churning out the emails.
The van was all loaded up with all the equipment and materials for the "Cleanup" operation, even the sandwiches were made up.
Human beings usually follow the path of least resistance. In other words it would have been easy to go for it. Some gravestones would have been washed down and next day the vast amount of attendees would have caught a chill and would have suffered. The productivity would also have been far from encouraging.
Things are meant to go right, and the Creator knows best. You have gained two bundles of swab, one for the intention for coming to the clean up, and another for when you do come and participate in the event.
Considering the circumstances, I trust that you will respect my decision, and I look forward to working with you on Monday, 25th May (bank holiday) at 11:00 A.M.
