Muslim Community and British Politicians
Muslim marriage is a religious ceremony. He insulted the bride and groom for his own political gain. They should not walk out because it would have been bad manners and rudeness to do so. They should respect the couple wishes, it’s their big day. He should have ascertained what the customs are beforehand, and then not attended if he thinks the practice offensive. One should have respect of others people's customs, even if one does not agree. Perhaps he should grow up and get an injection of reality. If you are not prepared to accept this then don't go or don't insult the bride and groom by walking out. What a disgusting small minded little man. Just shows the caliber of today's MP's from all parties. Well being a Labour politician his appalling ignorance of Islamic tradition plus downright rudeness to his hosts does not surprise me in the least. He should do his homework instead of ruining someone
’s day. He is totally an ignorant person. If a Muslim wants to have separation at a wedding (like much of the Muslim world) then they should be allowed to, and don't insult them when they do. Jewish wedding has observed the tradition of separating of men & women at ceremonies, without raising any eyebrows. Men and women are separated in Masajid and Synagogues. Muslim secondary schools are also segregated.
Two things to remember are
Two things to remember are that there is ignorance and there is marketing - which is being employed determines how one or a community should react. Globalization is only a buzz word, we are still people and our emotions and beliefs determine a large part of how we interpret the world. and will not change overnight or ever we'll just become better actors – if you look at Western countries these past 50 or so years they have not progressed just developed so the people are as ignorant today of many issues as they were 50 years ago. If it’s not on the TV, radio, Web or a newspaper they don’t know and with all the negative vibes about Muslims in these major media you have to understand that the sheep mentality holds strong so they won’t question just belive.
Anyway, politicians are really empty headed marketing tools –yes I know a couple of MPs. So when they say stupid things about an event, religion or culture their either trying to understand something that there marketing agent or aides have told them nothing about so have no comprehension of or they are making a statement that will win them support from the right or the opposition group – which is why I said it merits a different response. You can usually tell which is which by looking into backgrounds and affiliations. .
The Muslim community has been largely anonymous pre-911 and was considered just another minority and the community elders were happy to go along with that – which is a big mistake they made. Now that everyone is viewing the community as an entity looking to resurge to the top of the global agenda like during the caliphate; there are groups doing everything they can to cut or nullify Islam and instead introduce what they view as a more "acceptable" (i.e. Quadiani or similar western leaning sect) version of Islam. This is why there is aid and support for only certain areas and groups in Muslim countries and why Muslims should be working hard at dawat and reeducating Muslims and non Muslims about the worlds most truthful and honest faith.
