-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As many of you might have heard already (in the last few days or so), Barrister Rizwan Hussain was brutally beaten and tortured at Zia International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh [Monday 14th April 2008].
He has since returned to the UK [Thursday 17th April 2008].
His crime was to help an elderly lady with ticket problems and was brutally assaulted and tortured by FIVE airport security officials (Air forces). He was forced to sign a (false) declaration claiming that he was 'illegally trafficking humans' and that he 'falsely claimed to be a Barrister from the UK'. When he pleaded with them for water, they poured it over the floor surface and forced him to drink it off the surface floor. This act of brutality and injustice cannot go by with any excuse or by any standards in any country!
Rizwan Hussain is a well-known TV personality for his over-whelming humanitarian aid work and charity fundraising causes. He is a well-respected & admirable figure in the London-UK Muslim community and worldwide.
Working alongside Muslim Aid, Helping Hands, he helped regenerate the areas of Bangladesh devastated by recent Cyclone Sidr (late 2007), hence his regular and most visits there. He was an 'angel' to those who he went to help in Bangladesh (and elsewhere) and his pain and suffering would definately not have been in vain!
Therefore, we MUST act, not only to condemn such a gross human rights' abuses and brutalities but also to see justice being served.
In solidarity, with this petition, we - the undersigned demand:
1. An apology from the government forces for these actions of their personnel.
2. An apology from the Caretaker Government (officials) for failing to prevent the injustices suffered by this high profile humanitarian aid worker.
3. The trial and dismissal of the officers involved in the incident, upon their conviction.
Until our demands are met, we the British Muslim/Bangladeshi community and others shall withdraw our support from the current Bangladesh's Caretaker Government.
