Can I ask who is in the Moonsighting committee. On Sunday 31st Aug the moon set before the sun did. You can see moon and sun rise and set times online. So how can anyone in Glasgow see the moon when it has set. When the sun sets you no longer see it, the same is with the moon, and on sunday the moon set before the sun did so there was no chance to see the moon on sunday night. So the first fast would not be on monday but on Tuesday as on monday night the moon did not set before the sun did, so the moon could be seen on Monday night. Am i missing somthing? or did the committee get it wrong?
The Hilal (moonsighting) committee is actually a sub-committee of the Glasgow Ulema Committee. This consists of the Imams of the Mosques of Glasgow. The Hilal sub-Committee consists of a selection of these Imams for moonsighting purposes. They are household names within Glasgow. They probably don't want to be inundated with calls from the public, so the best thing to do is give your local Mosque a call if you have a query.
