Al-meezan
Al-Meezan is a non-profit, non-political organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of Islamic learning for women, children and youth.
Established in 1998 by a small team of dedicated individuals, today Al-Meezan provides Islamic education to over 600 women, children and teenagers in Glasgow and surrounding areas.
We recognise that the lack of knowledge of Islamic values in our communities has resulted in:
- The cultural oppression of women and their marginalisation.
- The breakdown in communication between parents and young people due to cultural differences.
- The collapse of the family unit due to strain in relationships between youth and parents.
- Feeling disentrancement amongst the Muslim youth.
- Depression and isolation faced by parents dealing with the above problems.
Al-Meezan's Objectives
Our central aim is to provide understanding and awareness through Islamic learning and enable students to integrate their spiritual learning in a variety of social contexts.
Our main objective is to establish a permanent Islamic learning centre to meet the spiritual education needs of women and children from the muslim community.
In summary:
- To provide Islamic Education for women, children and young people.
- To enable Muslim women and young people to become confident and open members of the Scottish society they live in.
- To develop communication skills amongst the youth and help them gain a positive self-image.
- To teach social responsibility and acceptance by exploring topics as diverse as gender equality and anti-racism.
- To provide quality childcare facilities encouraging Muslim values.
Al-Meezan is not funded, backed or supported by any government body or mosque. We are funded entirely by voluntary donations, course registration fees and fundraising events. All our workers are volunteers who offer their invalable help and assistance only for the sake of Allah (swt)
